The Argao Municipal Historical Institute

Mission:

The Instituto Historico Municipal de Argao (IHMA) is the Heritage body of the Municipality of Argao, Cebu. It is geared towards the identification, protection and preservation, and promotion of Argao’s tangible and intangible socio-cultural heritage. Its areas include history, genealogy, literacy, and research.

Because heritage is something that most people cannot relate to, it is the aim of the IHMA to make heritage easier and more fun to understand, especially with the younger generation. Similarly, the Institute aims to educate Argawanons that we can also earn a living through heritage preservation and promotion.

Scope and Areas of Responsibility:

1. Assist the municipality in all events and activities. Thus, the IHMA will also function as an in-house events coordinator and planner for the municipality;

2. Establish, seek funding, and maintain the:

1. Argao Municipal Library
2. Argao Genealogical Office
3. Argao Municipal Museum and Gallery;

3. Help maintain, in cooperation with the IT Department, the Argao official website by writing the articles and press releases;

4. Plan and manage all special projects and activities of the municipality;

5. Be a one-stop information center on anything that concerns Argao, its profile, culture, history, and heritage.
